On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, I attended the "Youth Art Month Exhibition" in downtown
Richmond,
Virginia. The exhibition is a project of The Central Region Virginia Art Education Association.
The exhibit, housed in the gallery of the SunTrust Bank office building at 9th and Main Streets, opened at the beginning of March and will run until the end of the month. The reception I attended Tuesday had been postponed because of inclement weather earlier this month. During the reception, the 2009 Art Advocacy Award was presented to Fred S. Morton, IV, superintendent of Henrico County Public Schools, for his commitment to the Arts in Henrico County.
I am usually interested in exhibits of the visual arts, but I must confess that my interest in this show was sparked by my niece Julie, whose work appears in the exhibit. Julie is a 5th grader at an area elementary school. Most area schools were represented by having at least one art piece done by a student at the school on display. Julie's water color of fish represented her school.
I truly enjoyed the show, which had really good work from the elementary through high school levels on display.
Many area families, teachers and friends proudly packed into the exhibit space to get a glimpse of their student's work. None were more proud than Julie's Uncle Jeffery.
Congratulations, Julie!
Here are a few photographs I took at the reception.
